Opportunities for females in the sports industry used to be few and far between. However this is all changing. Women manage baseball teams, conduct interviews, at the biggest sports events, are executives in boardrooms and run sports leagues like our guest speaker Jessica Berman. Spend time with Jessica learning about her career and where she see’s the future for women in sports going. Jessica C. Berman is Deputy Commissioner and Executive Vice President of Business Affairs at the National Lacrosse League where she provides strategic direction on all growth initiatives and legal matters facing the NLL She previously served as Vice President, Community Development, Culture & Growth at the National Hockey League, and was also the Executive Director of the NHL Foundation.
A Day in the Life of an NFL General Manager Jan 17thSpend 90 minutes on January 17th (MLK HOLIDAY) at 4pm Est with Mike Tannenbaum and friends to learn what an NFL General Manager does pre-season, in-season, and in the off-season. This program will take place on Zoom.
Students will get an understanding of a GM’s summer as they create a roster of 53 from 90 trying to put their best team on the field all while juggling salary cap implications. Learn how practice squads are developed and monitored during the season. Once the season begins, what goes on as the trade deadline looms? How do teams build culture? How do they prepare and scout for the following season? Additionally, the session will focus on the off season including how teams prepare for free agency, the NFL Combine and of course the Draft. Mike will take you ”inside the draft room". He will also touch on the future of the GM role with changes in business, technology and analytics.
